Road Rage - Can the police really do anything?

Mothers day is Sunday so I took my mom for a walk at our state park. She is 65 and a senior citizen. On the way back home my elderly mother %26quot;blew the horn%26quot; at a car in front of us because he wasnt following the rules of the road and was signaling people to empty out of the parking lot instead of taking the %26quot;right of way%26quot; to complete th left turn.

The guy gave us the finger and came marching over with his girlfriend/wife. The girl yelled %26quot;some people are really rude.%26quot;

I, the passenger, responded %26quot;well we all neeed to follow the rules of the road!!%26quot; and had a smile on my face.

The guy erupted and went balistic saying he was going to %26quot;kick my a$$%26quot; (and he really was going to fight me!!) just because my mom blew the horn at him.

I%26#039;m 34, 6%26#039;4, 350 pounds, size 16 shoes and the guy was like 34, 5%26#039;8 and 170 lbs.

I walked away saying %26quot;lets just drop it%26quot; and he said %26quot;what if i dont want to drop it%26quot; and followed me saying he wanted to %26quot;kick my a$$%26quot;

He threatened to assault me.

Road Rage - Can the police really do anything?
You did the right thing. You were with your mom. That guy was immature, and really rude. People take stuff so seriously on the roads. Seriously though, people get way too offended when theyre honked at or whatever. I don%26#039;t care about being nice to people on the road, I certainly don%26#039;t care for their feelings. I drive efficiently, and if someone%26#039;s screwing up I%26#039;ll let them know.

Anyways, your not a coward I think that was a good thing to do. That guy was a little punk, and probably deserved a punch in the face, but you could%26#039;ve gotten yourself in trouble for sure. Let it go.
Reply:Call the police and report the incident.

If you don%26#039;t have a witness... they will take your story and contact the man (if you have license plate or any other information that will tell them who it was).

If you do have a witness.... they will take your story, go talk to the witness, and then can arrest him.

You did the right thing. Words may provoke you, but it%26#039;s not excuse to hit back. And no.... you can%26#039;t shoot him.
Reply:The guy threatened you, of course it%26#039;s against the law. Its called a terroristic threat. Its very popular these days in being prosecuted. Next time tell him that your grandmother drives better than him and shes 84 and that should get a laugh and change the atmosphere. Instead of being sarcastic. Or you should of kept your mouth shut and have smiled.
Reply:Consider this lesson learned. You provoked the rage. Next time - don%26#039;t blow horns and make comments to complete strangers. If more people would ignore bad behavior - instead of considering it a constitutional right to correct it - I think we would have a much peaceful world.
Reply:Maybe if some people weren%26#039;t pricks they wouldnt have that happen to them.

Reply:You all sound like a nice buncha idiots to me.
Reply:Not in England you dont

Just hit that mother F|U|C|K|E|R in his ugly, pathetic face.
Reply:make it know your a hell of a lot bigger than him...
Reply:I would have reported it. In fact, I would have called the police right there and reported that a guy was threatening to assault me in such-and-such park.

I don%26#039;t see anything wrong with using the horn. Using the horn means %26quot;move your ***!%26quot; You would do this if someone was sitting at a fresh green light and not moving.

Granted you pick and choose your battles, but you could look at someone wrong and get shot in today%26#039;s society. You can%26#039;t be afraid to honk the horn in that type of situation. General rule of thumb is, if people in traffic are going to be nice to each other, every other car from every other side goes so traffic can merge together. Otherwise, person on the right-of-way just ignores the car who doesn%26#039;t have the right-of-way and keeps going.
Reply:It%26#039;s never good to create a confrontational situation as you found out. Mainly because you just don%26#039;t know how the other person is going to react. But if you have created this type of situation, call the police when you feel you could be assaulted or in some sort of danger. Blowing a horn at a stop light because someone wasn%26#039;t aware for too long after the light turned green is one thing. Trying to get someone else to follow the rules of the road is another. Not a good idea. You aren%26#039;t a coward just someone who doesn%26#039;t want to be threatened. It%26#039;s best under these circumstances to not give anyone a chance to be threatening or approach you in any way. Better to chill and wait while someone else is doing something stupid.
